The purpose of the Mission & Service Committee is to bring alive the work of the Church in the world and to encourage all members and adherents to participate actively in support of the Mission and Service (M&S) Fund.
The Mission & Service Committee is responsible to the Congregation through Council for:
Keeping the Congregation informed of mission activities and areas of special concern.
Supporting fundraising initiatives for the M&S Fund.
Acting as a liaison between Presbytery and the Church on mission matters and other areas of special concern including but not restricted to social justice issues.
Coordinating the Church’s response to requests for assistance from outside the local community.
The duties and activities of the Mission & Service Committee include:
Conducting a program which will stimulate and maintain the interest of the Congregation in the mission activities of the United Church of Canada.
Keeping in perspective and under review, the portion of money spent locally and on mission and service.
Keeping informed on items of relevant current M&S concerns which affect the Church and encouraging various groups and committees to discuss these issues.
Participating with the Stewardship Committee in the annual Stewardship Campaign for funds in order to encourage members and adherents to designate an equitable portion of their gifts to the M&S Fund.
Reviewing special requests for assistance related to M&S concerns from organizations outside the local community and recommending appropriate courses of action for consideration by the Council.
Encouraging the Congregation to make use of the United Church Observer.
