We have been called to respond to the massive humanitarian crisis that has resulted from the civil war in Syria. Woodroffe United Church in Ottawa has set up a fund to sponsor a Syrian refugee family. These funds, combined with their income from the government, will enable us to support the family financially for a year. It will also give us seed money to support other refugee families in the future. When the family arrives in Ottawa, our sponsorship committee will help them with many aspects of their adjustment to life in Canada. Our goal is that they will be independent at the end of their first year.

Woodroffe United Church has been thankful for the opportunity to support a young Syrian family as they settle in Ottawa and remake their lives. With the financial and moral assistance of the Congregation and friends, we have helped the family find accommodation, and get into language training, employment, schooling. As well, we have helped them deal with the myriad demands of moving to a new country and move forward toward an independent life in Canada.
We sincerely thank all those who have helped us and the family.
