The governing body of Woodroffe United Church |
| Administration & Finance |
Oversees the use, operation and maintenance of church property;
hires lay staff after their selection by an appropriate ad-hoc
committee; is responsible for the overall financial stewardship
of the congregation; provide suitable accounting controls and reports. |
| Christian Education |
Provides and maintains an overview, with the ministers and the
chair of the committee, of the Christian education activities in
the church. Church School classes are held during the morning worship
services. |
| Membership Relations |
Assists the ministers in the pastoral care of the congregation
and promotes communication and fellow ship among church members
and adherents. |
| Ministry and Personnel |
Provides a confidential setting for consultation with members
of the congregation and support and assessment of ministerial staff
of the pastoral charge. |
| Mission and Service |
Brings alive the work of the church in the world and encourages
all members and adherents to actively support the Mission and Service
fund of the United Church of Canada. |
| Outreach |
Helps those in need (on request) and cooperates with other churches
and social agencies in providing assistance by way of food orders,
clothing, transportation to medical appointments, shopping, etc;
works with other West End Ottawa churches to support a Street Chaplain
who works in the low income areas of our community. |
| United Church Women (UCW) |
Provides opportunities for Christian growth and fellowship for
all women of the congregation and funds various projects designed
to achieve the UCW purpose. |
| Worship |
Joins with the ministers in the oversight of the religious activities
of the congregation; is responsible for the order of service, memorials,
music, ushering, sacraments, and chancel care; supports candidates
studying for ordination. |
| Refugee Sponsorship |
An ad-hoc committee was approved in June 1999 to assist a Kosovar
refugee family under the Canadian Government's temporary resettlement
program. A family arrived in Ottawa in early July and was sponsored
by the committee for two years. |
