Ray Cuthbert, Chair
I am writing this article on a beautiful, sunny February 23 afternoon and my thoughts can’t help but drift towards Spring and Summer and warmer sunnier weather. Easter will soon be upon us. This morning’s Scout and Guide Service had a similar effect on my thoughts, as we celebrated our youth, God and scouting, my thoughts turned to camping and the great outdoors. It was such a joy to see so many young people participate in the service and allow us to be part of their “campfire” and hear their songs, skits and cheers. Beth Junkins works unstintingly with the Junior choir towards other musical contributions by our youth.
With my thoughts swirling about the warmer weather I thought of another warm spot; Chipembi, Zambia and the good work that is being done to help a student from there attend the Chipembi Girls Secondary School from Grade 8 through Grade 12. This is something the youth in my Church School Class felt strongly about when I asked them and they felt it is something that will make a difference.
Still thinking of the warmer weather, my mind turned to the planning our committee will do with respect to the yearend BBQ on June 8. Water balloon toss and the ever fun egg on a spoon race were some of the fun filled games that both children and adults played last year.
The snow banks I see outside my window have jolted me back to reality and caused my thoughts of warm weather to disappear for now. But at least I know the warmer weather is on its way!
